BAS and UKAC Round 4! The future is shining!

BAS and UKAC Round 4! The future is shining!

British Autograss Series- Border Counties

On this update we start with the future of our sport. The Juniors!

The BAS always brings a huge showing of juniors and provides some excellent racing! We were delighted to have 4 junior specials in the final this weekend, all a part of team BB and definitely the future of the sport!

All the way from Kent, Harvey Donovan picked up an excellent set of results to put him in his 1st BAS final of the year. A 1-1-5 saw him comfortably in the final on what was a weekend of rain, sun, mud and dust. Harvey finished an excellent 3rd place and will be one to watch in the future with his very smooth driving style!

Also making his 2nd BAS final on 1-1-2 was home Border Counties racer Will Bradford. Will is from a family of racers and is always willing to try making a move stick, just like his grandad! Will was top point scorer going into the final which for his second final is amazing and he is only getting faster. Will finished 7th in the final but shows potential every time he races and again is one to watch!

Evesham racer Brandon Young is always up there amongst some of the fastest juniors in the country and was a part of the top 8 of this weekend! Brandon entered the final on a 4-2-1 making him 5th qualifier into the final Brandon picked up a 4th place trophy as he heads into his final seasons as a junior. We always see Brandon in the mix and he is not scared of putting his car where he wants it!

Adam Robinson was the final junior of team BB to make the final 7th qualifier. Adam is in his last season of juniors now and you can see in his driving he wants to maximise all of the time he has left and pick up some good results. Entering the final on 2-2-3 Adam didn’t have the best choice of grids but he made it work anyway on what was now a dry, dusty and tricky track to work out. Adam finished an excellent 5th place just outside the trophy positions!

So our of the J-Spec final, half of the cars were BB! This is an excellent achievement for us and we look forward to increasing that number!

Now on to Adults!

Barry Ashmore made another BAS final this weekend finishing 5th, but it was his wife Aly who took the first place trophy in the ladies once again. Aly is chasing that top spot on overall scores, currently sat in second place this is her second BAS win of the year.

Aby didn’t have the best start at the weekend but started to get some points back with a 2nd and 3rd in the rest of the heats, sadly missing out on the final. We are ready to click on to full attack mode at round 5 in Yorkshire Dales to make our way into the top 4 of the overall points, currently sat in 5th it is getting fairly close.

Sue Nicholls however had a great weekend once again getting to know the changes made to her car, picking up a 2nd in her 1st heat and sadly spinning the car in her second heat putting her to the back of the pack, but she picked herself up and got back up to 4th place in heat 3 putting her just 5 places off the final!

After not finishing his first race due to damage, Liam Nicholls came back fighting in heat 2 with a 4th. But the stand out race for us was heat 3. Swapping and changing throughout the whole race with 2 of the fastest drivers in the country which made for some brilliant racing. Liam finished 3rd in heat 3, unfortunately he missed out on the final but with the next round being at YD, we are sure that Liam will be as fast as ever around his home venue.

UKAC- Nottingham

Men’s class 10 saw some close racing this weekend with 2 of team BB featuring in the top 4 of round 4’s final. Tony Jones finished 2nd after some good results all through the weekend. But our very own Chris Ashwin brought home the 1st place trophy for the second time this year around what is notoriously a tricky track to get round. After mixed results in the heats, bringing home that 1st place trophy made it all worth it.

Cat Cox also had mixed results this weekend, being black flagged in one of her heats putting her in the B final. After what was one of the closes races of the weekend, Cat came home to take the B final win after having a 2nds in 2 of her heats.

Cory Mumford carried on his campaign for that top spot in the points this weekend, taking wins in 2 of his heats and battling hard for 3rd place in his final. It is hard to remember that Cory is only in his first full year of racing after the brilliant results he is pulling out.

We now move on to round 5 of each championship being held at Yorkshire Dales and South Wales, 2 opposite ends of the country. The champions will be crowned and we wish everyone the best of luck!
