British and UKAC Round 5- The final Countdown!

British and UKAC Round 5- The final Countdown!

Wet weather, sunny spells, we had a mix of all weathers this weekend, some even said they saw sleet! But even so us crazy people went out to race in mud and rain, and what a weekend we had at the British Autograss Series!

BAS- Yorkshire Dales

So we made the long trip up into the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for the final round of the BAS, Sunny spells on the way up, rain all weekend! But still we carried on. Ab picked up a 4th on the Saturday before they cancelled the racing for the day at 3pm.. brilliant decision! Moving on to Sunday, Aby’s confidence needed a bit of a boosting, sat 5th in the championship, we could have made it into the top 4. Following on from the 4th place, she picked up a 2nd and 1st in heat 2 and 3 putting her 4th qualifier into her 3rd BAS final this year. Here, we swapped from wet tyres to the normal tyres and constantly changing our mind but in the end we stuck to ” Alaska’s”. The top 3 went for grids 2-3-4 so Aby chose grid 1 (she never does that) after watching a good friend of the family launch out of grid 1 we decided to go for it and didn’t it ever pay off! Aby won her first BAS final in ladies 8! What a weekend!

Liam unfortunately picked up a black flag in his second heat, leaving him with 2 3rds on his home track. Sue picked up a 5th a non start and a 4th, but being the chairlady of the weekend we think she had enough on her plate and her and the YD team did a brilliant job!

Barry Ashmore had a 3-1-1 and a 5th in the final, the last meeting Barry and Aly will have in their class 10, but what year they’ve had and we wish them all the best! Aly ended her year with a 1st in heat 1 and decided to park it there for the weekend. Barry has finished 4th overall and Aly has finished 2nd, brilliant achievements and we hope they have enjoyed their time in the 10!

UKAC- South Wales

South Wales suffered with bad weather also, but on a slightly higher scale. They decided not to complete finals on the Sunday but just complete the 3 heats.

Chris Ashwin has now ended his championship campaign and finished 2nd overall, at the start of the year he just wanted to make it into the top 4, so this is an excellent achievement to be close to winning the championship!

Terri Mumford also finished 2nd in ladies class 8! Terri is always competitive and looking forward to the challenge next year!

Cory Mumford in his first year finished 2nd in the championship this year. After being the youngest ever national finalist, Cory is ending his season being a very small amount of points away from that top spot! Cory still has 6 years of racing left and is already this competitive! The Mumford name lives on!!

Congratulations to all of our top 4, we now look to 2022 where new things are on the horizon!
