Well anyone that knows me knows that my family and members of team BB mean everything to me so to say i was a bit nervous for the season opener was an understatement.
However nerves wern’t needed as it all came together beautifully. It started with a few parts sales to get Mr Bott going the weekend and then a team meeting at the pub down the road on the saturday night and a battle of banter. We even let Jake Lee in on it as an X team member we bare no grudges at team BB.
Sunday morning up at 6;30 walk the BB mascot a chat with club chairman Simon Reeve about how the track would fair bit of breakfast and then it all began.
A spin round in Phils new 10 to make sure all was right for the day. Then on to the 7s that turned up for a bit of setup.
It was the first time out for us on our new Tractive suspension and although we had done all our home work there’s no substitute for getting out on track with them. The first races were called to the line for a bit of a shakedown everything stayed together no issues all good to go for the days racing.
In the first heats we saw some positive starts, cars handled gated, I couldn’t of asked for much more.
I did my usual trick of making my self known to some of the lads and a little word in Jay Jones ear after his dodgy start seen him produce some of his best driving for a good 8-9 months and were hoping he can string a good season together after last seasons run of bad luck.
Dan Humphries showed good form as he battles his rallying demons. Making the start in this sport is a must and also believing that you have every right to be in the race amongst some of the big names in our sport is also whats needed. I believe Dan will turn it around very quickly or more ear hole bashing will commence.
Nicky Williams joined team BB this year with a twin sc100 we built a few years and although he classed as a front wheel driver Nicky showed amazing pace fitting straight in with the c7 field and pushing for wins already.
Jamie Cox is on his 3rd BB car and the smile on his face says it all. He has put the car together him self this winter witch has meant he now understands more how everything works and i think this will help as the season goes on i couldn’t fault Jamie at all the weekend his driving and commitment were spot on.
Paul Bacon to is new this year to team BB and although Paul had clutch issues through out the day he still managed to finish the b final in 2nd place and ended the day with a smile Sue also had a few trios out and seamed to enjoy being back in the seat.
Jeffo was a bit of a guine pig for us this weekend different valving in shocks and slightly over sprung left us with a bit of work to do but we know how to sort it and we will have jeffo running more consistantly at the front of the field.
Ant Herbert asked us last year for a car to put him at the front of the field. He wanted it easy to drive and look after we obliged Ant was good all day feeling his way through the heats and pushing really hard in the final pretty certain Ant will be one to look out for this coming season.
Dean Barnes is with us again this year with more horses we will have to work a bit harder to get the car to grid better However Dean still put up a fighting display and had some good results.
Phill Young had his first trip out in his new 10 its a slightly new concept with the car it will make him work hard but give the desired result Phill won his 2nd heat then had a few driver issues in the final but for the first time in the car we are both really happy with it.
Aby was winning her first race of the season when the rust crept in but she a good fighter and is itching for this season to get on. I am sure we will see Aby in some big finals this year and pushing the boys round
All in all…..
Team BB turned out with 6 c7s 2 8s a 10 and a jspec and im pleased to say all was good the day couldn’t of gone much better lets see what this weekend brings.
