The Return of the MAP Open

The Return of the MAP Open

Would a bank holiday ever be a bank holiday without racing thrown in the mix? Well this weekend was no different, as we celebrate the queens jubilee at MAP open and the British Junior Championships, hosted by Evesham.

British Junior Championships.

This started on Friday with 2 heats for the juniors, with Cory Mumford 161F and Brandon Young E223 taking a storming 2 wins, the best start possible for day one. They then went on to take another win and a second between them leaving them joint on points going in to Sunday’s 5th heat. They both had another great race and Cory grabbed himself 6th place in his first British Junior Championship final.

Harvey Donovan IK71 also had a great first 2 days picking up 2 2nds and 2 wins leaving him 5th qualifier over night, a great achievement and Will Bradford BC115 picking up some great results over the course of the weekend as well. For a lot of our Juniors this will be there last British Junior Championship before they head into Adults next year, but there is still plenty of talent shining through to replace the 16 year olds.

Finley Winter A76 hasn’t had much time in his new J-Spec since its been finished, but he still picked up some good results over the first 2 days, sadly a DNF in one heat left him unable to reach the top 8. The ever improving Skye Paskell H50 picked up some excellent results for her first ever British Junior Championships taking a 3rd in heat 4 on Saturday in some tricky conditions. Skye is always on the move and making progress and after a knock at her first BAS round, she definitely isn’t scared to give it another go.

MAP Open

The Map is always a prestigious event to win, after years off due to covid, the turnout was still as busy as ever and the organisation was great.

Ladies first! 23 ladies class 8s signed on for the meeting, But it was Terri Mumford 158F that shone through and took an amazing set of results to finish 2nd in the final, Terri now has a nice big pot and a huge smile on her face! Tayla Jade Paskell H350 is still getting used to her new car, with a polished surface this weekend it was going to be tricky for everyone. Titch picked up a great set of results over the weekend to leave her just a few places from the final, we are sure that Tayla Jade will be back even stronger come BAS 2! Aby Picked up a 3rd and 4th of day one, and decided to give it a miss on the Sunday due to some car issues and the weather!!

Last but not least, the men!

Chris Ashwin 84F picked up a 2nd 5th 5th and a 3rd after scraping into the final in tricky conditions. Chris is all about trying new things and that’s what he was doing this weekend! Mike Liddiatt 309F returned again after UKAC and come back with a 3rd and 6th and again like many called it a day after seeing the weather Sunday morning. Alex Fretwell P152EM took a stormer of a Sunday in the rain and won his 3rd heat and the final, naming him as MAP Open Champion 2022. Marcus Lewis C100 also took his car and had some great results over the weekend, he is definitely taming the car to his liking! Mike Mumford 8F unfortunately took a small tumble in heat one of class 8, the car was fixed and ready for Aby to go out again. Thankfully Mike was uninjured and got out straight away to help push the car back on its wheels. But he will be back again before Nationals!!! Scott Shell IK95 made the trip over from IK and had a great weekend and picked up consecutive results, alongside Cerwyn Thomas CM26 who also had a good set of results over the weekend.
