Autograss Catch Up

Autograss Catch Up

So we are in to 2022 already, a very happy new year to everyone and we are exactly 2 months to go until the first race meeting of the season.

The very start of our Autograss build list is this class 9 belonging to Gloucester racer Josh Morgan. This has been a start to finish build awaiting some final touches to meet the customers requirements. With a lighter and more modern touch it will be a something new for Josh to try and we are looking forward to seeing it go on track. This car is running a Honda K20 Type R engine so it should have plenty of power behind it to be successful. Class 9 is becoming a more popular class regularly seeing 4-5 heats at championship rounds so we are looking forward to working with Josh to help him get some wins under his belt and become more confident in the car!

Adding to the specials, we have also had 2 class 10s in build with one returned to the customer and one in powder coat. Some of you may remember the side by side twin class 10 that Graham built back in 2019. This car is still out racing now and proving to have worked. So when our customer came to us and said he wanted the same, we couldn’t wait to get on with the challenge and add a few tweaks along the way. The side by side class 10 will have 2 K8 GSXR’s in the back. Tailor made to the customer, we have created a bigger cab for both of these cars so the driver’s feel more comfortable and safer when flat out down the straights. The side by side twin will be built on the button by us in house. Both drivers have had there seat fittings and already feel more comfortable.

The second class 10 we have built over the course of the winter is a standard front and back twin engine class 10 again with the bigger cab. This car was built as a chassis and the customer is building it up themselves. Just another option we have here at BB. Powder coated by Custom Colour Coatings in a bright white, it will certainly stand out on the start line, and we are looking forward to supporting all our customers with cars new or old during the up coming season.

We have also had a few re-builds come through the door. Starting with a regular customer Alan O’Riordan and his 2 sons. James in his second season in Class 8 and youngest son Darragh in his very first full season in Junior Specials sporting our very own British Championship winning J-Spec. Alan brought these cars over from Ireland for a full strip down and rebuild ready for the start of another successful season. We can’t wait to see these young guns get into the groove of the new year.

A bit closer to home, Aby’s 8 has been stripped, re-powder coated and a fresh engine rebuild ready for the new season, exactly the same as last year as it stood out enough on the start line! Aby finished 5th in the British Autograss Series last year, just one position from the trophies. We are hoping to see more final wins after Round 5 and look forward to a new challenge

Again closer to home, Chris Ashwin has had his car powder coated due to a few modifications to try on the rear end. He’s gone for a very striking green colour that is certainly different. Chris finished 2nd in the UKAC last year, so he is looking to make that one position up and qualify for the nationals taking place at Yorkshire Dales next year.

On to saloons…

2 new class 7s have also been built this year belonging to Lisa Charles and Carl Dugdale.

Lisa is a great competitor in Ladies class 7 and has competed in the class for the last few years. At the end of 2021, she decided it was time for a change and to step into more modern times, allowing her to be even more competitive. Mini’s are not very popular in class 7 anymore, you very rarely see anyone move away from a pickup. However Lisa stuck with what she loves and has made a brilliant start on building the car up herself in her garage. Lisa finished 3rd in the UKAC last year and is looking forward to the challenge in her brand new twin k4 GSXR Mini.

Carl Dugdale is another long time racer in Class 7 and has tried many different shell types over the years. One common shell he returns to is the small and compact sc100 shell that, like Lisa’s mini, is very rarely seen in the class. Carl had a Sc100 a few years ago and has now returned to the shell with this Brand new car for 2022. Again twin engine with 2 tuned K6 GSXR’s in the back which together with the lighter more modern design and body shell it will definitely be a flyer come race season.

So as you can see we have been busy with Autograss among other projects this last few months. Please check back to see how our customers are getting on.. we also have a few more builds and cool projects coming up!
