Guy Martin behind the wheel of a Piaggio Ape

At BB Motorsport we always enjoy being approached with new ideas people have. This time however, it was a bit different. We were approached by North One Television to help Guy Martin put a bike engine in this Ape. We were there to offer advice and build the back end for him. People who watched the show on Channel 4 on Monday 29th November may have recognised our proven class 8 style back end, and we were thrilled to have so many positive comments after watching the show.

The Ape ran a Kawasaki ZX10 engine, more of an engine than your average Ape racers over in Italy. We were supplied with the cab and had to build from that an interior cage and all mountings backwards. Within a few days, the back end was created and on the ape with a typical Autograss class 8 set up on the rear end, comprising of a bespoke drive box set up, rear trailing arms and Nitron shock absorbers. We worked with Guy to make sure that what we created was in line with what Guy had asked for and what the Ape was due to achieve. Guy spent the day with us going over the build and was more than happy with the work created.
